Harvick and Stewart-Haas Racing receive a serious NASCAR penalty

The No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing crew of Kevin Harvick was given a harsh penalty by NASCAR on Wednesday.

After previous Sunday’s Cup Series race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, the No. 4 Ford of Harvick and the No. 19 Toyota were both transported back to NASCAR’s development and research facility in Concord, N.C. for additional examination.

Rodney Childers, Harvick’s crew chief, has been given a four-race ban and a $100,000 punishment for changing a single-source provided part found on the No. 4 car.

Additionally, 100 points have been taken from the squad and racer for the L2 infraction.

Requests for comment and confirmation of whether the squad will like to appeal the penalty did not immediately receive a reply from the team.

Harvick will probably finish the season 16th in the championship standings despite having already been disqualified from the playoffs in the first round.

Additionally, because of an incident that happened before the race, Andrew Abbott, who was supposed to be the crew chief for driver Parker Retzlaff in Talladega’s race previous weekend, has been immediately suspended from NASCAR.

Abbott will need to finish a NASCAR-mandated anger management training course before being allowed to race again, according to NASCAR.
