The German is scheduled to retire at the end of the 2022 season, but the squad believes he is still just as dedicated as ever.
Mike Krack, the head of Aston Martin Formula 1, has refuted claims that Sebastian Vettel is about to retire and is going on a “farewell tour.”
Just before the Hungarian Grand Prix, four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel declared his retirement from Formula One. This led to a free-for-all in the driver market as his former opponent Fernando Alonso was hired to take his position.
In the rather uncompetitive AMR22, where he has only scored points in six races, Vettel is having a challenging season. After a DNF at the Italian Grand Prix, where he claimed his first victory in 2008, he is currently 13th in the rankings.
With only six chances left to return to the podium, the German also runs the risk of finishing without a podium for the first time in a full-time season.
Vettel is still devoted and not on a “farewell tour” despite the fact that his career is coming to an end, according to Krack.
Aston Martin’s tracks will get better soon
“We are not really on a farewell tour,” Krack told media.
“We are not thinking this is the last month, that is the last year, or this is the last time I do this or [that].
“We will for sure have a farewell in Abu Dhabi, but until then, it’s not really on our mind that we go now around the world and it is always the last – not at all.”
Krack made the comment that certain tracks on the schedule, like Singapore, should be better suited for the Aston than ones with less downforce, like Monza, given that Vettel had won five times on the Marina Bay streets.
“I think we have a couple of races to come where the car will be more competitive, and you have seen in some forms, the potential to go into Q3 was there.
“So we have the potential and I think this is also encouraging for the races to come.
“Singapore was always a track where he performed very, very well, so we have high hopes that we achieve something something good with him from now to the end.”
