Verstappen won qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas, overtaking title challenger Lewis Hamilton by two tenths of a second, and then won the race following a fascinating strategic battle between Red Bull and Mercedes.
Verstappen’s pole was his ninth of the season, ensuring that he will remain unchallenged in the one-lap standings for the next five Grands Prix.
As a result, the Dutchman will get the “Pirelli Pole Position Award” as well as a limited-edition Pirelli tyre (a wind tunnel model).
In 2021, Hamilton has three pole positions, followed by Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who each have two, and McLaren driver Lando Norris, who has one.
