In one of the most significant changes to NASCAR’s schedule in years, the 2022 season will kick off at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The annual exhibition Clash, which has been hosted at Daytona International Speedway since 1979, will move to Los Angeles in 2019. The invitation-only race, which took place a week before the Daytona 500, was traditionally the season’s beginning to competitive NASCAR racing.

The event in 2022 will take place on February 6, one week before the Super Bowl and two weeks after the Daytona 500. The race will take place on a quarter-mile asphalt track set up inside the stadium. The 77,500-seat Coliseum is the home of the USC football team.

The full 2022 schedule will be released after the announcement on Fox Sports on Tuesday night.

“Los Angeles is synonymous with major sports and entertainment events, so we seized an innovative opportunity to showcase NASCAR at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president of strategy and innovation. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to take center stage in this market as we get our 2022 season underway.”

NASCAR has previously held events inside stadiums, including regional races in Winston-Salem and a Cup race at Soldier Field in Chicago in 1956.

The Clash’s eligibility is yet to be announced, but the drivers will be driving Next Gen cars, which will debut in 2022.

The Clash at Daytona has been on sale for months, and the event was supposed to be the kickoff to a six-day festival of racing at Daytona. “The Clash at the Coliseum” tickets go on sale Thursday for $65 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.

After The Clash, NASCAR will return to the Los Angeles area for its annual stop at Auto Club Speedway. Because of the epidemic, NASCAR did not hold a race in Los Angeles in 2021.

The uniforms of NASCAR racing drivers are currently available at the following websites for a reasonable price:
