After being fired by the squad just before the 2022 season began, former Haas racer Nikita Mazepin is still committed to competing in Formula One.
After leaving Haas before the 2022 season, Nikita Mazepin is certain that he will be able to go back to Formula 1 later.
The Russian has admitted he hopes to return to the motor racing once his nation’s conflict with Ukraine is over, following rumours that he was considering suing his old squad for unpaid wages.
Mazepin and the team’s primary sponsor, Uralkali, were fired as a result of the in question war. Haas made the choice to cut all relations with the racer and sponsor as a result of the harsh economic restrictions imposed on Russian businesses.
Additionally, the FIA required Russian athletes to sign a statement known as the “Neutrality and Peace Commitment” that promised they would refrain from endorsing Russia or its recent activities.
Although Mazepin was fired by Haas less than a day after signing the contract, he insisted at the time that he had not.
Now that Mazepin is confident he will one day be able to compete in Formula One again, he is keeping himself in condition in preparation for the call-up.
Keeping in shape for an upcoming F1 challenge
“I have confidence that in the future it will be possible to return,” Mazepin told Russian newspaper Sport-Express.
“Therefore, I am at the same weight and have kept myself in good physical shape, so if such a challenge arises, I will be able to take advantage of it.
“I want to note that the FIA allows me under certain conditions. Sport should unite and athletes from different countries should be able to compete with the best.
“I have always been guided by the principle that when you put on a helmet, you have no skin colour or belong to any particular state.”
Mazepin is adamant on being involved in the motorsport even if it means doing so in a managerial capacity rather than on the racetrack because he doesn’t think a drive in another series is likely.
Indycar is not a possibility
“I’m not interested in Indycar, of course, I cannot say what will happen tomorrow but all my life I wanted to get into Formula 1,” Mazepin added.
“I got there, but as they say, appetite comes with eating, and I have no doubt about what I could do in a competitive car.
“Top teams are worth several billion dollars and I think that someday I will come to be a part of this industry as a businessman. But I’m not going to rush into it.”
