Encouragement, not criticism, is what Schumacher needs

Mick Schumacher is currently competing in his second Formula 1 season with the Haas F1 team, but things aren’t going well for him.

In the midst of a challenging beginning for the 2022 season, Bernie Ecclestone has recommended that Mick Schumacher needs encouragement rather than criticism.

The son of iconic seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher has drawn some public ire from his team manager, Guenther Steiner, because he has yet to win a point with a third of the season already over.

Steiner was extremely candid about how he thought about the accidents, saying that they had to figure out how to move on after losing the final in the most recent Canadian Grand Prix and incurring costly collisions in both Monaco and Jeddah.

Schumacher’s successes are only being exaggerated by the strong efforts of teammate Kevin Magnussen.

Ecclestone: If Michael was here, he would tell Steiner where to go

The younger Schumacher wouldn’t be dealing with this, according to former F1 team owner Bernie Ecclestone, if his father were there to support him.

“We don’t know how good or bad the car is,” Ecclestone told German media outlet NTV.

“It makes a big difference whether the car suits his driving style or not. He doesn’t need people telling him negative things all the time. He needs someone to help him and not criticise him too much.

“If Michael was here, he would tell Guenther where to go, that would help a lot. If he upsets the team and they kick him out, the question then becomes whether another team is ready to take him on. So he’s suffering a bit and hoping someone will give him a chance.

“He has the ability, so it’s whether there’s a team that wants to take him and try to see if he is as good as his dad.”

Ecclestone feels that giving Schumacher a chance in a newer car would be excellent.

“I would like to see Schumacher in another car, in a more competitive car,” he added.

“I would like to see him in the Mercedes of the past. That would be nice! Look at Red Bull for example.

“They take care of their drivers, they try everything and find the best set-up for them. You also see how good the second driver of that team is. They are very good and make sure the car suits their drivers.”
