Hamilton regrets Mercedes’ Q3 strategy following his P8 in qualifying

After qualifying eighth, Lewis Hamilton was upset that he was unable to take advantage of the Interlagos Circuit’s unpredictable weather.

Lewis Hamilton was disappointed to finish in eighth place since he was not able to take advantage of a mixed qualifying hour.

The Mercedes racer advanced to the third round of qualifying, but because each racer was only permitted to record one flying lap, he was only capable of recording a time fast enough to place him in eighth place before teammate George Russell brought out the red light.

No racer was able to perform better when the practise resumed because the red flag delay caused the driving conditions to worsen with the intensifying rainfall.

In order to assess the track conditions, Hamilton and Red Bull racer Sergio Perez left the pits on intermediate tyres, but the outcome was already known.

Hamilton regrets his position in the Q3 pit lane

Hamilton expressed his disappointment that he was one of the last racers on the track in Q3 and discussed the complex challenges in Sao Paulo in his post-qualifying interview.

“I just went out to see what the conditions are like, but obviously, it was properly wet. So, that’s motor racing,” conceded Hamilton to media.

“I think it was just difficult. It’s difficult to see the conditions, it’s difficult to see the raindrops because it’s so dark, and I was the last car out [of the pits].

“I think I just got the last part, or the earliest part, of the rain or something.

“I probably lost too much temperature in the pit lane as well, so just a bit unfortunate, but George did a great job, and congratulations to Kevin.”
