The claim that Pierre Gasly’s contract contains a provision allowing him to perhaps attend Alpine for 2023 has been refuted by Red Bull and AlphaTauri.

The prospect of Pierre Gasly quitting Red Bull to attend Alpine in 2023 has been denied by AlphaTauri and Red Bull.

Despite Alpine having previously confirmed Oscar Piastri as their 2023 racer, Alpine lost Fernando Alonso from their lineup of drivers after the Hungarian Grand Prix and now appears set to lose Piastri to McLaren as their reserve racer.

Alpine will be looking for another racer for the 2023 season if McLaren’s pursuit of Piastri, as reported by RacingNews365.com, is successful as anticipated.

Daniel Ricciardo, a potential McLaren defector, would be a contender for a comeback to the Enstone-based squad, although it is unknown who Alpine currently prefers as its back-up racer.

Gasly, who has improved since being demoted from Red Bull in 2019 and earning one victory and two podium finishes in that time, is one racer that has been connected to their second seat.

Red Bull would have the last word on whether Gasly may go, albeit he currently extended his contract with AlphaTauri to the end of 2023.

Marko rejects Gasly has exit clause

Thought to be looking for a race with a squad higher up the grid, Gasly’s choices have been few.

Sergio Perez will remain with Red Bull through the completion of the 2024 season, delaying chances inside the Red Bull stable until then.

Helmut Marko, Motorsport Advisor for Red Bull, has shot down rumours that Gasly could cause AlphaTauri to leave.

“There is no exit clause [for] Gasly,” Marko told Sport1.

“There was none before the summer break and there will be none after the summer break.”

AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost also responded to the links by underlining that he is Red Bull’s first choice if a seat opens up.

“It makes no sense for Red Bull to let Pierre go,” said Tost.

“If a Red Bull driver fails, there is no other adequate driver who can step in. Only Gasly can do that.”
