Prior to the Singapore Grand Prix, Alex Albon gave a status update on his current appendicitis treatment.

After being ill on Saturday morning, the Williams racer was compelled to withdraw from the rest of the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

Nyck de Vries, who had previously been racing with Aston Martin on the Friday of the previous weekend, took his spot.

Albon tweeted an update noting that he was feeling “very good” and appreciating the work of the medical staff at San Gerardo hospital, but he also admitted that it might be challenging to go back in time for Singapore in two weeks.

“The goal is to be ready for Singapore, which is going to be tough, its one of the toughest races that we go to so its not an easy one. Lets aim high and see what happens.”

Albon’s treatment was more difficult than it first appeared

Albon had laparoscopic surgery at San Gerardo Hospital on Saturday morning, but the procedure was more complicated than it appeared at first.

Even though the main surgery went well, it was subsequently discovered that the patient had “unexpected post-operative anaesthetic complications” that caused respiratory failure.

Albon had to be placed on mechanical ventilation after being moved to intensive care. He was able to rest over night, according to the squad, and go home on Tuesday to concentrate on his recovery for Singapore.
