A victory in 2022 would maintain the British driver’s outstanding record.
Lewis Hamilton thinks it is of “no importance” to him to continue his streak of winning a minimum of one Formula 1 race each season of his career in 2022.
The 103-time race victor is the only racer in F1 World Championship history to have achieved at least one victory each season they competed.
As of September 17th, 2022, his latest victory came at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021, where he famously crashed with then-champion Max Verstappen during the nation’s inaugural race.
Verstappen has scored 11 of the 16 races he has competed in so far in 2022. Hamilton’s Mercedes team is having trouble with its W13 design, but Verstappen is still certain that he can win one of the remaining Grands Prix.
The importance of a win record is zero
The two second-place results he earned in Hungary and France in 2022 are Hamilton’s finest performances, and he is currently sixth in the Drivers’ rankings.
“Honestly it has zero importance to me,” Hamilton told media including RacingNews365.com.
“I’m grateful that each year since 2007 we’ve had an opportunity to win, and I do believe that we’re going to have a chance this year, we’ve still got some races to go.
“That’s definitely a real big goal for us as a team to get back to the front end and be fighting for the lead.
“I have no idea where our car is going to be great.
“It was a surprise when we got in the car at Zandvoort and it felt so much better and completely different to the previous weekend [in Spa].
“But I’m hoping, more often than not, it feels like Budapest and Zandvoort for the rest of the races.”
