Sergio Perez will begin the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from pole position for the first time in his career on Sunday.

Perez stunned the field by beating Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in qualifying, with Max Verstappen settling for fourth in the other RB18.

Esteban Ocon of Alpine took fifth place in the ‘best of the rest’ duel, beating out George Russell, who was forced to lead the Mercedes charge when teammate Lewis Hamilton abruptly dropped out in the first qualifying session.

Hamilton is scheduled to start 15th, only behind the fined Daniel Ricciardo (who obstructed Ocon), but he has indicated that he may choose a pit lane start, allowing him to break parc ferme restrictions and tweak his W13’s set-up.

There will be one non-starter, as Mick Schumacher will be absent due to a major qualifying accident, leaving new driver Kevin Magnussen to lead the Haas squad.

The starting grid below is tentative until the FIA, Formula One’s governing body, confirms it.
