After qualifying in Brazil, Max Verstappen was summoned by the stewards, joining Lewis Hamilton.
After an alleged breach of the FIA International Sporting Code relating to parc ferme conditions, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen will be required to appear before the Brazilian Grand Prix stewards on Saturday morning.
It’s the latest development in a dramatic Friday at Interlagos, which began with Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes team being called for an alleged DRS technical breach that will continue into the morning.
Verstappen touches Hamilton’s car
After fan video evidence emerged showing Verstappen looking at and appearing to touch Hamilton’s rear wing after qualifying, the stewards summoned him to appear before them for a possible breach of Article 2.5.1 of the FIA International Sporting Code.
Article 2.5.1 of the Sporting Code states: “Inside the parc ferme, only the officials assigned may enter. No operation, checking, tuning or repair is allowed unless authorised by the same officials or by the applicable regulations.”
Now it’s up to the stewards
At 9:30 a.m. local time (12:30 p.m. GMT) on Saturday, Verstappen and a Red Bull team representative must report to the stewards.
The hearing to determine whether Hamilton will be fined has been postponed until Saturday morning. The FIA has issued an instruction to impound Hamilton’s rear wing while the stewards await more evidence.
