With victory at the Mexican Grand Prix, Max Verstappen expanded his championship lead over Lewis Hamilton, while Red Bull closed the distance on Mercedes.
After a commanding victory at the Mexican Grand Prix, Max Verstappen now leads Lewis Hamilton by 19 points in the battle for the 2021 Formula One World Championship.
Verstappen stormed past the Mercedes drivers at the start of the race and pulled away from Hamilton over the course of the 71 laps to win by 20 seconds and increase his championship lead for the third round in a row.
Sergio Perez completed the podium in front of his adoring home fans, capping off another successful day for Red Bull as a team. Red Bull are now just one point behind Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship after Valtteri Bottas was tagged into a spin by McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo at Turn 1 and was unable to recover to the top 10.
