To replace Andrea Pirlo, Massimiliano Allegri returns to Juventus as coach

Pirlo only coached Juventus for one season, but his team’s fourth-place finish ended a nine-year winning streak in Serie A. The club did not say who made the decision to let Pirlo go, but rumors in Italy say he was fired.

On Friday, Massimiliano Allegri returned to Juventus as coach, just hours after Andrea Pirlo decided to step down.

Allegri led Juventus to five straight Serie A wins, four league and cup doubles, and two Champions League final appearances. Two years ago, he was fired from the club.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is back in charge. “Allegri returns to a bench that he knows very well, a club that he loves and that loves him back to begin today a new adventure together toward new goals,” Juventus said in a statement.

Allegri, 53, is said to have signed to a three-year contract with the club.

Pirlo only lasted one season as Juventus’ coach, but the team’s fourth-place finish halted a nine-year winning streak in Serie A. The club did not say who made the decision to let Pirlo go, but Italian media reports say he was fired.

Pirlo expressed surprise at the decision, stating on Instagram that he had met all of the objectives that had been set for him and that his time at the club had ended in an unexpected way.

After Maurizio Sarri was fired last year, Pirlo, a former Juventus player who had never managed at any level before taking over, was appointed.

Andrea Pirlo, a soccer legend, started his new career as a coach a few months ago. In a statement, Juventus said, “To do this first of all and all, it takes guts as well as awareness of one’s own means Pirlo has only just begun the first stages of what will no doubt be a brilliant career as a coach.”

Pirlo’s Juventus won the Italian Cup and the Super Cup, but Inter Milan won Serie A.

In the Champions League, the club again struggled, losing in the round of 16 to Porto.

Because victories are what matter in soccer, let’s look back on them over the course of a few months. Juve has won two trophies under Pirlo’s leadership: the Italian Supercup and the Coppa Italia. “And he as coach brought home brilliant victories on the most prestigious of fields from San Siro to Camp Nou,” Juventus said

As a player, he was known as the maestro due to his exceptional passing abilities. Pirlo won Serie A six times, twice with AC Milan and four times with Juventus. He also helped Italy win the 2006 World Cup. He also won the Champions League twice with Milan, and it appears that he will be coaching another team in the future. Sassuolo’s vacant position has already been linked to him.

My first season as a coach is over. It was an intense year complicated but marvelous at the same time Pirlo said. This adventure despite ending in a way I didn’t expect has made it even clearer what I want my future to be.
