Daniel Suarez, a racer in the NASCAR Cup Series, is having a difficult time in the playoffs so far.
During pre-race inspection on Saturday at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, Suarez’s No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet initially ended in failure three times before passing.
Suarez won’t be able to qualify on Saturday due to the mistakes, and he’ll have to serve a pass-through penalty on pit road before the race starts on Sunday.
Additionally, Eddie D’Hondt Jr., Suarez’s vehicle chief, was suspended for the rest of the weekend and his squad was denied pit selection for the race on Sunday.
“Today’s inspection for the No. 99 has definitely been a challenge with the rear toe tolerance,” Tony Lunders, Trackhouse Racing’s vice president of competition, said in a statement. “We corrected the issue and are ready to race.
“This team has fought and scrapped all year long to get to this point. This will be a big test for the organization but one we are confident we will overcome.
“Our mindset remains the same – go hard and smart and maximize our result.”
Suarez is making his first playoff appearance as a Cup Series driver. He entered as the 13th seed after winning his first match of his career earlier this season in Sonoma, California (out of 16 racers).
“I’m excited for the challenge,” Suarez said. “I think one of the worst things that you can do to me is put (on) pressure. I’m going to beat them from the back.”
Additionally, B.J. McLeod’s No. 78 Ford of Live Fast Motorsports failed inspection twice. The team’s engineer was kicked out of the race for the rest of the weekend, and they were denied pit selection for the race on Sunday.
