Sunday’s Michigan NASCAR Cup race’s start has been postponed

Thunderstorms and heavy rain have both postponed the beginning of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway.

Due to the possibility of storms in the vicinity, NASCAR shifted the 400-mile race’s green-flag start time earlier on Sunday to 3:01 p.m. ET.

Nevertheless, a 30-minute lightning hold was declared 30 minutes prior to the new kickoff time, and soon after that, rain started to fall.

In qualifying on Saturday, Bubba Wallace led a Toyota sweep of the top three spots and took the top spot for the first time in his Cup Series career.

Christopher Bell and Wallace will sit together in the front row. The position was also the first for 23XI Racing, which is managed by Denny Hamlin, a Cup driver, and NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Austin Cindric will start fifth, Kyle Busch will start third for Bell’s Joe Gibbs Racing squad, and Joey Logano will start fourth.

Tyler Reddick, Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Hamlin, and Erik Jones round out the top ten lineup. Tyler Reddick won last week’s race at the Indy Road Course.

At the beginning, no vehicles are planned to move to the back of the field. Pre-race events will now start at roughly 4:15 p.m. ET.
