A number of global broadcast distribution contracts, including one with Canada, have been revealed.
Ahead of the 2021 season, the American single-seater championship IndyCar has announced a series of renewals with its global broadcast partners.
For the 2021 season, Sportsnet will broadcast the series in Canada. Select IndyCar races were broadcast on Rogers’ Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet World pay-TV networks during the 2020 season, with full season coverage – including qualifying – available via the SN Now+ streaming service. For the 2021 season, Sportsnet has confirmed that SN Now+ will host the majority of its IndyCar coverage.
“The support we’ve had from Canada has been incredible,” Toronto native driver James Hinchcliffe said. “The fans are passionate. They’ll be excited to know where they’ll be able to watch IndyCar this year.”
Sky Sports, the leading pay-TV sports network in the United Kingdom, will remain IndyCar’s broadcast partner for the 2021 season.
IndyCar will be broadcast on pay television in the rest of Europe via Canal + in France, Movistar in Spain, Viaplay in the Nordic countries, and Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands.
IndyCar intends to broaden its coverage in several countries, including Australia, where Fox Sports Australia and its Kayo streaming service will show practice sessions, qualifying, and races. Fans will be able to follow Australian driver Will Power and three-time Australian V8 Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin of New Zealand in the US series as a result of this move.
Sky Sport will remain IndyCar’s broadcast partner in McLaughlin’s home nation through 2021.
“The new commitment is massive,” said Team Penske’s McLaughlin. “I have a lot of support back home and not only for myself but for Will Power and Scott Dixon. For our friends and fans to see every session is fantastic. It’s going to be awesome.”
Gaora Sports will continue to bring on-track action to fans in Japan. IndyCar’s deal with Supersport in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa has been renewed, and the championship will be broadcast in Russia by Viasat Sport East.
Before the 2021 IndyCar series starts out on April 18th at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, further international broadcast partnerships are likely.
