According to Sky Sports, David Alaba has agreed to join Real Madrid this summer. Alaba will join Los Blancos on a five-year contract that will keep him in Spain until the summer of 2026.
This concludes a multi-year story in which Bayern continued to throw money at Alaba and his advisors in an attempt to persuade him to extend his contract with the Bavarians. The Austrian, on the other hand, has long been connected with a move to Spain, and it appears that this is now happening.
This will come as a disappointment to Barcelona, who had hoped to secure Alaba’s services. Instead, the veteran, who will turn 29 this summer, has chosen to support their arch-rivals.
One has to question if Bayern’s supposed promise at the last extension that Alaba would have a chance to play central midfield, which never occurred, influenced his decision to depart Munich. Nonetheless, we appreciate Alaba for his ten years of service to Bayern and wish him the best of luck in the future.
