Due to power unit modifications made by Red Bull and Ferrari, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc will begin the Belgian Grand Prix from the rear of the field.
Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc will start at the rear of the grid for the Belgian Grand Prix due to new power unit components.
Other racers that had to move down the lineup for engine-related upgrades included Mick Schumacher, Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon, and Lando Norris.
Verstappen, Leclerc, Bottas, and Schumacher will also be assessed individual penalties for going above their allowed amounts for gearbox components.
What components of the engine and gearbox were changed?
Verstappen has upgraded his Red Bull’s internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-H, and MGU-K, while Ferrari racer Leclerc is driving a brand-new MGU-K and energy store. These upgrades make them title challengers for 2022.
Compared to Schumacher’s vehicle, Norris, Ocon, and Bottas all have new internal combustion engines, turbochargers, and MGU-Hs. Ocon also replaced his MGU-K, energy store, and control electronics.
Leclerc, Bottas, and Schumacher have gone beyond the case and cassette limit in terms of gearbox modifications.
Along with Verstappen and Schumacher, Leclerc and Bottas have also gone overboard with their drivelines, gear change components, and auxiliary components.
