Carlos Sainz has promised to focus on the good aspects of his difficult weekend at the Australian Grand Prix.
Despite the fact that his race ended in tragedy, Sainz confesses that he acquired many important lessons over the Australian Grand Prix weekend.
The Spaniard’s problems began during qualifying on Saturday, when the timing of a red light prevented him from completing a fast lap. Later in the session, he failed to improve this pace, and he qualified P9 on the grid.
Sainz had steering wheel issues in the build-up to Sunday’s Grand Prix, and he struggled to get his Hard compound tyres to operate at their best in the early laps of the race.
The Ferrari racer spun heading into Turn 10 on Lap 3 and beached his car in the gravel, forcing him to retire from the race.
Was this Sainz’s most challenging weekend in Formula One?
Sainz had a difficult few days, with his fortunes contrasting sharply with those of colleague Charles Leclerc, who won his second race of the season in overwhelming form.
“It’s a tricky one to say, since I don’t remember exactly my other 100 and something races in Formula 1,” Sainz told the mediawhen questioned if this was the most tough week of his F1 journey so far.
“So it’s tricky to know if it’s the worst one, but it’s definitely a weekend [where] it looked like it was going well. It looked like I had [become] a lot more at home with the car, and [had been] putting together some strong laps during the weekend.
“[But then] everything turned out to be probably, yes, one of my most disappointing weekends in Formula 1.”
