ELKHART LAKE, WISCONSIN (AP) – Kyle Busch won the Xfinity Series race at Road America on Saturday, overcoming damage sustained in a late-race crash.
Busch has won all four of his Xfinity outings this season, despite a spin early in the race. The victory is his 101st in the Xfinity Series.
“It was a challenge,” Busch said in Victory Lane. “It was just a different kind of challenge. Thankfully we had that set of tires there at the end and that was kind of our saving grace.”
Austin Cindric, Kyle Busch, and Justin Allgaier‘s vehicles were among those damaged in a mid-race incident on Lap 38 of the 45-lap race. The incident began when Myatt Snider collided with another vehicle, resulting in a multi-car collision. Cindric and Allgaier were forced to pit in order to make repairs. Busch, though, did not.
Daniel Hemric was the runner-up. It’s his ninth runner-up finish in the Xfinity Series in his career. In the series, he has yet to win. Third place went to Michael Annett. AJ Allmendinger finished fourth after winning both stages. Harrison Burton came in fifth place. Kevin Harvick came in sixth place.
In a crash around Turn 12, Canada Corner, Sam Mayer was eliminated. Mayer and another motorist collided in traffic, sending Mayer’s car into the wall. The 18-year-old walked away from his second series start.
After saying on his radio that he had lost his brakes, Spencer Pumpelly crashed into the tire barrier in Turn 1.
Ty Gibbs started on the pole, was penalized for a restart violation, and was racing second when had transmission issues on Lap 35, causing him to stop on the track.

WHO HAD A GOOD RACE: Daniel Hemric finished second after overcoming a pit road penalty, giving him three top 10 finishes in the last four races. … Michael Annett finished third, his best finish of the season. His previous best finish this year came in Las Vegas, where he finished sixth. Riley Herbst, driving a backup car, finished seventh. In the last nine races, he has finished in the top ten twice.
WHO HAD A BAD RACE: Sam Mayer, who grew up roughly 30 minutes from Road America, was in a crash and placed 35th in the 36-car field. Ty Gibbs’ race was canceled due to transmission woes. He finished 33rd after starting on the pole.
