After avoiding penalties after colliding in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc have shared their thoughts on the incident.
Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc collided in Sunday’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but no further action has been taken.
When the race resumed after an initial red flag period, Perez and Leclerc collided at Turn 3, sending Perez into the wall and generating chaos behind them as cars attempted to avoid contact.
While George Russell was slowing, Haas rookie Nikita Mazepin hit the back of the Williams, causing the race to be red-flagged once more.
Perez and Leclerc were both summoned before the stewards for their involvement in the collision, however the panel ruled that “neither driver was predominantly to blame.”
What were the drivers’ views?
Both drivers offered their versions of events after the race
“I thought that Charles wasn’t there because there wasn’t any more space, but he was still there, so at that point I think he became a passenger,” said Perez, who retired on the spot.
“There was nothing he could do or I could do differently and we tangled.”
“I was on the outside and I’m pretty sure he noticed me,” Leclerc said after recovering to 7th place.
“I think he probably thought I still had the choice of letting down, but the thing is that his rear wheel was there, so I had no choice and I tried to squeeze, and then his wheel is turned.
“Luckily for me, there wasn’t too much damage.”
