Manchester United and Juventus have reached an agreement to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo, the Premier League club said on Friday. The transfer is subject to personal terms, visa approval, and a medical examination.
From 2003 through 2009, the Portugal forward returned to the club where he won eight major trophies. Financial terms were not released, although British and Italian media reported that United will pay 25 million euros for Ronaldo on a two-year contract.
Ronaldo, who joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2018 for 100 million euros ($117.90 million) in the hopes of leading them to the elusive Champions League championship, will depart the club with 101 goals, two league titles, and a Coppa Italia.
The 36-year-old won the Ballon d’Or as the world’s greatest player in 2008 at United, along with team honours, before moving to Madrid for a then-world-record fee of Β£80 million.
Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, reportedly finalised personal terms with Premier League winners Manchester City after notifying Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri of his wish to leave Turin on Thursday.
However, after City reportedly had a change of heart about the agreement, rivals United were able to secure the transfer.
