Kyle Busch was penalized by NASCAR on Monday for using a racial slur in a post-race interview at Martinsville on Sunday.
NASCAR will require Busch to complete sensitivity training prior to the start of the 2022 season as a penalty for violating its conduct guidelines.
Busch, a two-time series champion, finished second in Sunday’s race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, but he was still out of contention for the series championship in 2021.
Busch used a slur typically used to refer to those with intellectual and developmental problems while describing his last-lap tangle with Brad Keselowski in an interview captured on video by NBC Sports.
Busch apologized for using a slur he said he “should never use” on his Twitter account late Sunday night.
Busch is ninth in the series standings with two wins, 14 top-five finishes, and 21 top-10 finishes with one race remaining this season.
