Hulkenberg might join Aston Martin in 2021: ‘Would be great’

Nico Hulkenberg was a long-time contender for the Red Bull Racing seat in 2021, but he fell between the cracks. The German is currently without a race seat for 2021, but he may be able to work as a reserve driver.

Hulkenberg lost his Formula One seat at the end of 2019. Hulkenberg’s replacement at Renault was Esteban Ocon, and he did not find another job. He would, however, be in action in 2020, as the coronavirus infections of Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll meant that he was still in action three times during the F1 season.

The first race at Silverstone was a disappointment because he was unable to start, but he pleased with his third place in qualifying for the second race. Everyone was impressed as he raced from last to eighth place in the Eifel Grand Prix after stepping in at the last minute for qualifying.

This put the German back in the sights of numerous teams, but in the end, he would get nowhere. However, Otmar Szafnauer has excellent news for the German, who may be able to count on a reserve position at Aston Martin. “That would be great. I think it’s a great option for both parties” the Aston Martin team head told German RTL.
