How Vettel could continue to be involved in Formula One once he retires

Sebastian Vettel is expected to continue serving as the Director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association even after leaving Formula One racing, according to Daniel Ricciardo and Valtteri Bottas.

Sebastian Vettel’s position as a Director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) should remain after his withdrawal, according to Daniel Ricciardo and Valtteri Bottas.

Sebastian Vettel, a four-time F1 World Champion, made the announcement that he would give up racing at the conclusion of the current campaign before to the Hungarian Grand Prix.

In addition, Vettel has served as Director of the GPDA since 2010, the group responsible for protecting the rights and interests of Formula One racers.

He collaborated with other members George Russell, Anastasia Fowle, who was the first person who was not a racer to hold a position within the GPDA, Alex Wurz (who is also the president), and George Russell.

The Ukraine-Russian conflict, F1 security, and sustainability issues are just a few of the significant issues Vettel hasn’t shied away from in his final years in the sport.

The GPDA has had various directors since it was established in 1994, and many racers have chosen to step down from those positions when they finish their F1 careers, though it is not required.

For instance, Pedro de la Rosa maintained a Director post during 2008-2010 and 2012-2014 despite only participating in one full season during that time. Wurz assumed his GPDA positions in 2014, many years after his final F1 race.

Bottas: Straightforward Vettel raises numerous concerns

Vettel has not yet indicated if he plans to continue serving in that capacity with the GPDA, although he continues to enjoy the backing of his other F1 racers.

Vettel’s directness, according to McLaren driver Ricciardo, made him a good character for the part.

“We’ll see if he wants to continue. I don’t know. He’s certainly done a good job,” Ricciardo told media.

“Seb is a guy that, a lot of the time, just says it how it is and not in an aggressive way, it’s just very honest and direct.

“When we’re on topics like safety, then we don’t need to beat around the bush, so I think his character is really good for that position.

“It [Vettel’s retirement announcement] is obviously all very new news for us. I guess we’ll discuss it internally and have a think who is a good replacement, but he was great for us.”

Likewise, Alfa Romeo’s Bottas expressed his desire that Vettel would remain in the position and supported up the Australian’s assertions.

“I feel like it’s quite hard to replace Seb in that kind of role, because he is really straightforward and direct and doesn’t skirt around things, and says as things as they are, and questions many things loudly,” added Bottas.

“I hope he continues. I’m not sure if he’s keen, but it would be great if he continued.”
