A Formula One pundit claims that Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have behaved more maturely than their team bosses throughout the race for the 2021 championship.
F1 pundit Mathias Lauda, the son of famous driver Niki Lauda, has called Christian Horner and Toto Wolff “childish.”
Throughout the 2021 season, there has been a lot of back-and-forth between the two team executives, and it looks to have been especially heated in the last months.
Horner was recently called a “little actor” by Wolff, and the two had more heated exchanges during a pre-race press conference at the Qatar Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, on the track, racers Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have been battling it out, and Lauda believes the drivers have shown more maturity than Horner and Wolff.
“I think the drivers behave more maturely than the team bosses,” Lauda said.
“With Max and Lewis, there were never any serious problems all season, even after the incident at Silverstone.
“Actually, the team bosses are childish.”
The title decider
With only two races remaining, Verstappen is only eight points ahead of Hamilton in the Drivers’ standings.
While it is mathematically possible for Verstappen to win the title in the next Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia, Lauda believes the fight will be fierce at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
If this scenario occurs, Wolff has previously stated that there is a chance the two drivers may collide, and Lauda would not rule this out either.
“This has happened before in Formula 1,” Lauda said. “In an equally fierce duel, namely with [Alain] Prost against [Ayrton] Senna.”
However, he expects the fight to remain “fair”.
“At this point in the season, people have mastered aerodynamics,” Lauda explained. “Red Bull Racing just had a few problems on Friday in Qatar.
“Both teams are now getting everything out of the car and trying to improve it further, but I’m sure it will be fair.”
