Mercedes took the 2nd and 3rd quickest times on the opening day of practise at the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya, separating the two Ferrari racers.

After Friday practise for the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton struck a happy figure, with Mercedes near the head of the standings.
During the second practise session in Barcelona, Hamilton and driver George Russell placed slightly behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc – and in front of both Red Bulls.
The W13 seemed to be porpoising significantly less than it had been in prior events, thanks to different modifications, and Hamilton agreed with Russell’s initial evaluation that solid improvement had been made.

“I’m super happy with the progress, so a big, big, big, big thank you to everyone back at the factory for not giving up and for continuing to push,” he commented.
“We’re not the quickest, but I think we’re on our way. It’s the first time we’ve driven down the straight without bouncing. We still have some bouncing, but it’s way better.
“We’re starting to eke into a bit of the potential in our car.”
