As he recovers from symptoms similar to a concussion, Alex Bowman will be absent for a second consecutive week.
On lap 97 of the 334-lap race, Bowman, 29, lost control at Texas Motor Speedway. Despite being injured, he kept going and completed the race.
Just few days later, he said that he would not be participating in the Cup race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway because of concussion-like symptoms.
Bowman had intended to compete in this weekend’s Round of 12 cut-off race at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval despite already being below the cut line before being injured. His elimination from the playoffs on Sunday will now be amongst four racers as a result of the news from Tuesday.
Bowman’s replacement in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet will once more be Noah Gragson. In his debut race with HMS, the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship contender began eighth and came in 19th. Gragson might yet be able to assist the No. 48 car progress in the owner’s playoffs, even though it’s a long shot.
Bowman said on Twitter that he will not be participating in this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway because “With my health continuing to be my number one priority, I will not return to racing this weekend at the NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I am continuing to make strides in my recovery to make sure I can return to competition at 100%.
“I appreciate Noah (Gragson) stepping into the No. 48 Chevrolet again and will be cheering hard for my Ally Racing team this weekend. Thank you to everyone for your support during this time. It has not gone unheard or unseen and I’m overwhelmed by your support.”
Kurt Busch, who is still not driving after colliding with a barrier at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway on July 23, is the other Cup racer to be sidelined with a concussion this season.
