Ferrari has announced that their new 2022 car will be unveiled in the middle of February.
Ferrari has announced that its Formula One car for 2022 would be unveiled in mid-February, just in time for pre-season testing.
The teams are nearing completion on their 2022 challengers, which were designed according to a new set of technical standards.
The new cars are expected to be able to follow each other closer, with only a 10% downforce loss compared to 50% for this year’s cars.
Overtaking and wheel-to-wheel racing should become more common across the field, with the pecking order potentially moving considerably.
Ferrari is the first team to confirm a rough launch date for their unnamed new machine.
“The car will be presented mid-February,” Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto told media, including RacingNews365.com. “We have not decided yet the date.
“[It will be] from the 16th to the 18th of February. That will be the dates. But [it’s] something that we will finalise in the next weeks.”
Ferrari look to extend future with Sainz
The steady points finishes of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz helped Ferrari finish third in the 2021 Constructors’ Championship.
Sainz, who finished ahead of Leclerc in the Drivers’ standings, signed a two-year deal when he joined the team at the start of the year, and Binotto wants to extend it into 2022.
Binotto said: “We’ve got Charles on a long-term contract and agreement. With Carlos, we will discuss through the winter time the extension of his contract. We’ll sit down with him and try to understand [the situation].
“Certainly, I think he did very well during the season. I’m very happy [with] the way that he has integrated, the way that he has been performing on track during the race weekend.
“So no doubt we will sit down and try to find an agreement. That will be part of the winter period.”
