Fernando Alonso inherited the top of a statistical category among active Formula 1 drivers in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
In a late battle for fourth place with Lewis Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso, the two-time Formula One world champion, raced to the top of a statistical category among the sport’s active drivers.
After surviving the opening lap chaos caused by Valtteri Bottas in turn one, Alonso finished fourth, his best result since he finished on the podium at the Hungaroring driving for Ferrari back in 2014.
Lando Norris, the man who took Alonso’s place at McLaren when he “retired” after the 2018 season, was unable to avoid the chaos.
Norris was forced to retire from the race when his McLaren was driven into the side of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull after making major contact with Bottas’ Mercedes. Norris’ 15-game point-scoring streak ended, and Alonso now leads the league in that category.
After starting the season, his first since retirement, with only two point-scoring results in five races, Alonso has now scored points in each of the following six races.
His results in the last six races include finishes in every position from fourth to 10th place except for fifth.
Here’s a list of those six results.
- Azerbaijan Grand Prix: 6th
- French Grand Prix: 8th
- Styrian Grand Prix: 9th
- Austrian Grand Prix: 10th
- British Grand Prix: 7th
- Hungarian Grand Prix: 4th
His average finish during this span is 7.33.
