NASCAR is revising its COVID-19 protocols, and regardless of vaccination status, all teams and workers will be required to wear masks indoors again.
As concerns about the spread of the COVID-19 delta variant rise, the new restrictions will take effect at the upcoming race weekend at Watkins Glen in New York.
“On the advise of NASCAR’s consulting physicians and recently released medical guidance,” series officials said.
NASCAR started the process of easing restrictions in May when it no longer required them in outdoor and open air areas, allowing vaccinated personnel to enter buildings and haulers without wearing masks.
According to Fox Sports NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass, the new regulation is not particular to the New York race and will be in effect until further notice, with driver media availability moved outside.
For fans, each track has its own mask regulations depending on local guidance.
Vaccinations are not required of NASCAR personnel or participants, but they are encouraged, with numerous tracks offering vaccination clinics.
