McLaren revealed that Daniel Ricciardo tested positive for COVID-19, causing him to miss the rest of F1 testing in Bahrain.

After informing to the squad that he was feeling poorly, the Australian driver sat out both Thursday and Friday’s races at the Bahrain International Circuit.

He stayed in his hotel room and has been doing COVID-19 tests on a regular basis since then.

The 32-year-old has tested positive after a string of negatives and will miss Saturday’s race.

Will Ricciardo be forced to isolate himself?

According to McLaren, “Daniel is continuing to isolate in accordance with local regulations.

“Under these regulations, Daniel will be released in time for next weekend’s Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.

“Daniel is already beginning to feel better, and we wish him well for a quick recovery.”

Ricciardo seemed to be in a positive mood as he handled his diagnosis on Twitter.

“Better this week than next…” he wrote.

“Unfortunate to miss the test, but I’m starting to feel better. I’ll stay isolated and just focus on next weekend.

“Big thanks to Lando and McLaren for the heavy lifting. I owe you some beers (milk for Lando).

“Appreciate the well wishes from everyone.”

Without Ricciardo, McLaren had a difficult Friday

Despite a strong performance in Barcelona, McLaren has struggled since arriving in Bahrain, despite the fact that their driver pairing is not to fault.

They’ve developed a brake problem that will necessitate the shipment of new parts from the United Kingdom.

Norris said: “There’s still a few problems that we’re working to resolve so, again, we made the most of what we could today.”
