With Porsche and Audi expected to attend the Formula One track in 2026, Ferrari’s Mattia Binotto has followed Christian Horner and Toto Wolff in hoping the two Volkswagen Group teams luck.
When Formula One announces a new power formula in 2026, Ferrari Team Manager Mattia Binotto has expressed his enthusiasm for the possibility of Porsche and Audi joining the race.
Rumors about the two Volkswagen Group brands entering the motorsport have been circulating for months, and at a conference in Wolfsburg, Germany, earlier this month, VW Group management voted in support of a future F1 entrance for Porsche and Audi.
While there are still a few technicalities to iron out before both entries can be considered official, Binotto has joined the chorus of Team Principals who have come out in support of the two brands’ participation in the motorsport.
“We are very happy for Porsche and Audi to join F1,” Binotto told media, including RacingNews365.com.
“I think that’s great for the sport, it’s great for F1, and it’s great for us to compete with such brands, so overall, I think it’s good news which we need to be very happy with.”
Binotto’s opinions are similar to those of Red Bull’s Christian Horner and Mercedes’ Toto Wolff, who have both expressed excitement about the possibility of Audi and Porsche entering Formula One.
Binotto: Much still to agree upon
Before the 2026 rules are published to the World Motor Sport Council in June, Binotto emphasised that there was still much more to negotiate and approve.
“There are still open points on financial regulations, because they need to be finalised and formalised,” said Binotto.
“What is a newcomer? How do we define a newcomer? What are the benefits of a newcomer? All that needs to be clarified and defined.
“There are points on the technical [side] still having open discussions, so there are many things that need to be moved forward and finalised.
“From now to June, time is certainly very short, which means that we need to work on it as [a] high priority.”
