Alice Powell, a British racer, has entered Alpine as a development and mentoring driver, becoming the curreny female racer to cooperate with an F1 squad.

Alpine Formula One drivers

Alpine has announced that Alice Powell, a female rally driver, has entered the squad as part of their development project.

Powell, who presently races in the female-only W Series, has been named the Alpine driving academy’s Talent Identification and Development Mentor.

The British racer will function as a mentor to up-and-coming racers, providing them with motorsport and career guidance, with a special focus on female racers.

“More and more opportunities for women within motorsport are emerging now, but budding drivers often lack guidance and experience in the early days of their career,” said Powell.

“The Alpine Academy provides a sense of credibility and has a defined place on the motorsport ladder.

“Mentoring is very important. We need to change the mindset of young women that these opportunities do exist, but to also give them the resilience to reach out and grab these opportunities with both hands.”

Increasing the number of female drivers in Formula One teams

Compatriot Abbi Pulling, who also competes in the W Series and joined Alpine’s affiliate programme the year before, is one of Powell’s present trainees.

Powell joins Alpine as the latest female driver to take on a position with a Formula One team in some manner.

Jamie Chadwick, a two-time W Series winner, is in her fourth year with Williams’ Driver Academy, while Jessica Hawkins will enter Aston Martin as a Driver Ambassador in 2021.

Powell, Pulling, Chadwick, and Hawkins kick off the 2022 W Series season this Saturday in Miami, with two races going to take place on the sidelines of the F1 Miami Grand Prix weekend.
