Why is the F1 calendar such a nonsense?

Formula 1 is significantly famous for its global travel, with teams and racers taking off to distant lands in search of World Championship success.

In 2023, the race that begins in Bahrain and ends in Abu Dhabi is separated by just over 500 miles, but in the eight months that follow, 21 additional races will be held in 17 additional nations around the world.

But why is the F1 schedule set up in such a nonsensical way?

Why aren’t races divided up by continent, starting with Asia, moving on to Europe, the Americas, and ending with the Middle East?
