With no alternative event on the calendar, expectations that the Chinese Grand Prix would be secured for 2023 have been extinguished.
Following the official cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix, the 2023 Formula 1 season will consist of 23 events.
The lifting of “zero COVID” regulations by the Chinese authorities for the first race since 2019 prompted expectations that Formula One could come to Shanghai in April.
RacingNews365.com knows that a letter indicating that the event in 2023 was not feasible and that a comeback would have to postpone until at least 2024 was delivered to the racetrack the previous week.
It is believed that the Portuguese Grand Prix was a top contender to substitute China in the middle of April, but the conclusion has been reached to continue with 23 Grands Prix.
It indicates that there won’t be another race until the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on April 30 after the Australian Grand Prix on April 2.
Three races will take place in the United States this season: the Miami Grand Prix on May 7th, the US Grand Prix in Austin on October 22nd, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 18th, the first Saturday event since the 1985 South African Grand Prix.
Silverstone will host the British Grand Prix on July 9.
