In response to Max Verstappen’s criticism regarding the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which the Dutchman implied that he would never return to the competition, Romain Grosjean has responded to this issue.
After experiencing server problems, Max Verstappen said he might never again take part in the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans, calling it a “clown show.”
According to Gérard Neveu, Executive Producer of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, the race, which is held on the rFactor 2 platform controlled by organizers Motorsport Games, experienced a security breach many hours into the competition that prompted many players to disconnect from the servers.
“It became clear within the first seven hours of the race that we had some serious server issues which led to us showing the red flag on the race twice,” he said.
“After an initial investigation, it seems that some race competitors accidentally shared to the public the IP addresses connecting them to the server, which is not supposed to happen.”
Team Redline and Verstappen withdrew
When the connection broke, Verstappen and Team Redline decided to stop racing rather than attempt to recover lost laps.
With the help of Team R8G, former F1 racer Romain Grosjean finished the race and took first place in the GTE class, although he later responded to Verstappen’s criticisms online.
The Frenchman, a Motorsport Games ambassador, compared the connectivity problems to mechanical or technical challenges in real-world racing.
He published another after this one to indicate his pleasure to how the event was handled: “Le Mans Virtual is over and I had a lot of fun. Sim racing is super competitive and seeing one of the biggest race in the world being done on sim is awesome. Yes, few bits and pieces to improve, but isn’t that just like everywhere else?”
