Horner gives an explanation on Perez’s Red Bull prospects

Sergio Perez is curently in his 2nd season as Max Verstappen’s team member, having helped the Dutchman win the World Championship in 2021.

Sergio Perez 50 50 split

As things currently stand, Christian Horner believes it would be not difficult for Red Bull to renew Sergio Perez’s contract.

His existing contract will end at the conclusion of the 2022 season, after he played a major part in supporting teammate Max Verstappen win the World Championship the year before.

Perez finished on the podium five times in his debut year with the team, including winning his second career race in Baku.

“He’s doing a great job,” Horner said, speaking to North American outlet The Athletic in Miami.

Horner: As long as he keeps doing what he’s doing

Horner finds no point in changing the dynamic at Red Bull as long as Perez maintains his current form.

“Everybody’s happy with him on the team,” continued the Red Bull team boss.

“If we had to make a decision today, of course, we would want to extend. As long as he keeps doing what he’s doing, it will be a no-brainer.”

What will happen to Gasly if Perez remains at Red Bull?

Horner’s statement comes as Red Bull racer Pierre Gasly, now 26 years old, considers his contract situation.

After being relegated by Red Bull after a rough half-season with Verstappen, the Frenchman is now on his third full season with AlphaTauri.

Since then, Gasly has reached to the top of the podium of the podium twice, including after a great victory at Monza, and has remained in the Red Bull stable.
