The stewards have issued their decision in the case of McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo, who was penalised during qualifying in Saudi Arabia.

For Sunday’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo has been demoted three places, and the McLaren squad has been fined €10,000.

It comes after a stewards probe into a collision during qualifying between Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon, in which the Alpine driver was impeded.

Before announcing their judgement, the stewards heard from both the drivers and the teams, with Ricciardo admitting that he had no idea Ocon was coming on a fast qualifying lap because his mechanic had not warned him.

As a result, the aforementioned sanction was imposed because McLaren “failed in its responsibility to keep Car 3 (Ricciardo) appropriately informed of oncoming cars.”

Ricciardo has been given one punishment point in addition to his grid penalty – he had none previously.

What does it mean for Sunday’s race?

Ricciardo has demoted from P12 to P15 on the grid as a result of the ruling, although he still has only 13 cars ahead of him.

After a high-speed accident during qualifying, Haas driver Mick Schumacher, who finished P14, will not compete in Sunday’s race.

Tomorrow, the grid will be completed, with Schumacher’s absence mentioned.
