F1, its teams, and its racers are backing a UNICEF effort to assist individuals impacted by Ukraine’s current war.
The sport announced on Sunday that all 20 Formula One drivers are backing an initiative to promote awareness of UNICEF’s efforts in Ukraine.
F1 and its teams have provided a ‘substantial donation,’ according to the sport, which did not specify a sum.
Many teams have also already pledged to help UNICEF or other charitable organisations, with Ferrari offering one million euros to those who need it.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, which drew international criticism, F1 has terminated all official connections with the country.
F1 drops Russian GP, Haas drop Mazepin
The contract for the Russian Grand Prix has been terminated, as has the country’s broadcast deal and F1TV rights.
Immediately after the invasion, Russia’s Nikita Mazepin, who had been scheduled to race for Haas in 2022, lost his place, with Haas also removing championship sponsor from Uralkali, which is managed by Mazepin’s father Dmitry, who is known to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The EU and the UK have since sanctioned both Mazepins.
