Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren for another four years as both he and the team want to win the Formula One World Championship.
Lando Norris’ long-term commitment to McLaren has been welcomed by team boss Andreas Seidl, who described him as a “key element of our plan” to return to title-winning form.
McLaren confirmed on Wednesday that Norris has signed a new four-year contract with the team, which would keep him with the team until 2025.
Norris achieved a personal best of sixth place in the 2021 standings, scoring four podiums and 160 points while consistently outperforming seasoned teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
Announcing the renewal, Seidl said: “The opportunity to extend our relationship with Lando reflects not only our commitment but our belief and confidence in his talent.
“It is also a strong sign of trust and commitment from Lando in us as a team and our journey to World Championship contention.”
McLaren praise Norris’ “impressive growth”
Norris, 22, has been with McLaren since 2017, first as a reserve driver and then as a race driver in 2019, and Seidl praised the improvement he has made thus far in his F1 career.
“Lando has shown impressive growth as a Formula 1 driver over the past four years and has been an instrumental part of the team’s momentum and performance trajectory,” added Seidl.
“We are still on our journey to fight at the front and Lando is a key element of our plan.
“To lock him into place, alongside Daniel and our senior leadership, gives us stability and continuity as we build towards our ultimate shared goal of World Championships.”
The last time McLaren won a world championship was in 2008, when Lewis Hamilton won the Drivers’ title for the first time.
