Despite losing the Constructors’ Championship to Ferrari, Lando Norris believes that he and McLaren may be pleased with their performance in 2021.
Lando Norris is happy with his performance in 2021, describing it as his “best season so far” in Formula One.
The Briton won the second race of the season in Imola, and went on to win three more races throughout the year. He also won his first pole position in Russia, where he came close to winning his first race in the final laps.
Norris also outperformed new teammate Daniel Ricciardo for the most of the season.
“It’s definitely been, I would say, my greatest season so far, which is obviously a good thing when I’m in my third season,” Norris told the media, including RacingNews365.com, when asked how he would reflect back on 2021.
“But yeah, I’m very happy. It’s obviously been my most successful year as well with some podiums, the 1-2 for us as a team in Monza, my first pole position in Formula 1. So I think I’ve achieved a lot.”
Helping McLaren in the fight against Ferrari
Norris is also satisfied with his contribution to McLaren, and believes that the Woking-based team can be proud of their 2021 season, despite losing out to Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship battle for third place.
“I think I’ve also done well for the team, and been there for the team when we’ve had those chances to be on the podium and score the points, and bring that fight to Ferrari for as long as possible,” he explained.
“Although they’ve creeped a little bit too far ahead, possibly. But I think from my side, and even for us as a team, it has been a very good year, and we should be happy with what we’ve done.”
Norris concluded the year in sixth place in the World Championship, one point ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in five, Charles Leclerc in seventh, and Daniel Ricciardo in eight.
