Valtteri Bottas is proud of what he accomplished over his five years with Mercedes, and believes that his partnership with Lewis Hamilton will go down in history.

The Finn joined the team in 2017 to replace Nico Rosberg, who was retiring, and has since helped them win successive Constructors’ Championships, with the team winning their eighth in a row in 2021.

Bottas believes that now that he is ready for his new chapter with Alfa Romeo, he has had the opportunity to reflect on how special his and Mercedes’ successes have been together.

“I’m proud,” Bottas told the Beyond The Grid podcast.

“And now, definitely knowing that I’m continuing to another team, I’ve had time to a little bit reflect every now and then of the situation. Because we’ve achieved some pretty special things together.”

On the squad’s back-to-back Constructors’ titles, Bottas added: “You do need two drivers for that.”

Proud of partnership with Hamilton

Bottas may not have attained the individual success of teammate Hamilton during his Mercedes years, but he believes the team as a driver line-up was strong.

The new Alfa Romeo driver explained: “If you look at me and Lewis as teammates, if you look at the history of Formula 1, the amount of points, wins, podiums we’ve got together… For me, it’s hard to try and name a better team.

“So I’m definitely proud, and the main thing is that I know that I’ve given everything. I can look in the mirror and say that I tried, I gave it everything I had. That’s all I can do.”

Bottas won ten races for the Silver Arrows while also finishing on the podium 58 times and claiming 20 pole positions.

The Finn has signed a multi-year contract with Alfa Romeo and will be joined on the track by rookie Guanyu Zhou.
