Todt is unworried that Ferrari’s F1 records have been broken

In an exclusive conversation, FIA President Jean Todt discussed what it’s been like for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes to exceed Michael Schumacher and Ferrari’s records.

FIA President Jean Todt seems unconcerned that Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have surpassed the records he set with Ferrari in Formula One.

Todt was Team Principal for the Scuderia throughout the early 2000s, when they dominated the sport. Michael Schumacher won five straight World Championships with the team during this period, giving him a total of seven championships.

Hamilton, who won his seventh World Championship last year and is still in line to beat Schumacher’s record if he wins an eighth title in 2021, has since equaled Schumacher’s record.

Todt claims he is unconcerned about Hamilton and Mercedes displacing Schumacher and Ferrari in the record books.

“It’s good for them,” Todt said.

“At the moment we still have two champions with seven championships. So in a way, a record is always potentially able to be beaten.”

Other records

Todt may have lost some of his Ferrari Formula One records, but given that he has previously worked in other categories such as rallying and sports cars, he is pleased with his accomplishments.

“When I speak in my kind of pride I say, okay, somebody has more wins in Formula 1,” Todt explained.

“But they don’t have some wins in sports cars, they don’t have some wins in rallying, they don’t have some wins in cross-country. So at the moment, still, I have some advantage on the others on that!”
