After colliding with Jeffrey Herlings at the MXGP of Germany, Jorge Prado has updated his injury status.
Prado revealed he had had treatment at the hospital in a social media update, revealing he needed surgery on his upper torso.
Although he completed the initial care and everything went well, the true extent of the damage caused by the handlebars impaling the armpit remained unclear.
He now has to wait until the French Grand Prix this weekend.
Prado was stretchered off the Talkessel circuit at the MXGP of Germany after colliding in mid-air with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Herlings as they reached the finish line fractions of a second apart.
Herlings went straight while Prado looked to jump across the finish line and take the chequers.
While Prado was being carried off the track on a stretcher, Herlings rose swiftly and walked away from the chaos with a little limp. Herlings wants to be fully fit for the French Grand Prix after the Dutchman admitted he had a knock to his knee.
If Prado hopes to win his first MXGP title, he can’t afford any more dropped points. Prado’s first race in Turkey was ruined by a massive collision, which lost him a chance to score 25 points. Despite winning the first moto in Germany, he was unable to complete the second race due to injuries sustained in the incident.
Prado thanked followers for their offers of support in his first social media post since the incident. He added: “As you know, after winning the first moto at the German GP, Jeffrey and I collided after the finish line, digging the handlebars into my armpit and having to undergo surgery that same night.
“Fortunately, everything went well, but I don’t know the real extent of the injury. See you soon.”
Since the contentious issue, a considerable amount of vile online abuse has targeted Prado. Unfortunately, the abuse intensified when he didn’t address the cause of the crash.
