Enzo Trulli is in his first year of racing, and he’s come a long way since making his debut in single-seaters at the start of 2021.
Trulli competed in the Formula 4 United Arab Emirates championship in January and February as a warm-up for what would turn out to be a Euroformula campaign, winning his first car race. This was followed by three more victories and the championship.
He joined Drivex for Euroformula pre-season testing at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, then raced in the lightweight, halo-shod Dallara 320 on the support bill of Formula 1’s Portuguese Grand Prix at Algarve International Circuit. Trulli is familiar with F1, as his father Jarno competed there from 1997 to 2011, winning the Monaco Grand Prix in 2004.
During the second Euroformula event at Circuit Paul Ricard, Trulli Sr remarked on his son’s performances thus far, following a run of six straight points finishes that included an overall podium and rookie class triumph in Algarve.
“We’ve had some trouble during this weekend,” said Trulli Sr on the Sunday at Paul Ricard. “We were looking good at the beginning of the weekend, but then we lost some pace, especially yesterday, we were not looking good. Today was much better [for] our pace, Enzo did a very good job, several overtakes. Still, the other cars are much quicker and Enzo still has to improve, but nevertheless this is a – he is in a learning process and of course we expect all to get him better and better.”
After getting out of his car following a fifth place finish in the second Paul Ricard race, Enzo Trulli added his own comments: “This weekend was hard. good qualifying for me, a bit of a mistake but the best [position] I can do. And first race I did too many mistakes and I lost the sixth position that could make me start on pole position [for race two]. The second race for me went really good, but I think Motopark and Van Amersfoort Racing are something more than me, and also in the last round at Portimão and here we had a problem with the brakes but now we fix it so let’s see in the third race how we go. But so far it’s not so far bad, but we can improve a lot.”
