F1 2021 gets underway this weekend with a 23-race calendar, the longest in the sport’s history.
It’s an opportunity for drivers up and down the field to prove themselves on many occasions, and ahead of the race, we’re taking a closer look at five of the drivers to keep an eye on this season.
Here, we take a look at Daniel Ricciardo…
The Australian joins McLaren this season, hoping for a return to podiums at the at least in 2021, with the hope that 2022 and a potential shake-up due to sweeping rule changes may pave the way for a title challenge.
Certainly, the McLaren car has looked strong and speedy in testing, and it’s incredible how they’ve managed to bolt in a Mercedes power unit over the winter after moving away from Renault, as Ricciardo did.
The ‘Honey Badger’ brings seven Grand Prix victories with him as he joins Lando Norris at the Woking-based firm. He has confessed that he needs to leave Renault because he believes time is running out for him to wait for a team to become a championship team.
Indeed, he has been ruthless in terms of team changes in the past with his earlier Red Bull exit, and he will hope that he has got it right this time.
Of course, a title challenge this year is unlikely, but the foundation for one in the near future could be established, which is why he’s one to watch this season.
