Following the cancellation of the 2021 Australian Formula One Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo expressed his “heartbreak.”
The event, which was supposed to take place in November, had been in doubt for a while due to the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 in Melbourne.
Ricciardo, who finished seventh in the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend, said he was “gutted” by the Victorian government’s decision to cancel the race for the second year in a row.
“Hey everyone, I normally smile but it’s hard,” he said.
“Obviously I’m really gutted we’re not coming back home to Australia this year.
“I know everyone enjoys the Australian Grand Prix and coming to Melbourne.
“It hurts we haven’t been there now for two years. We’ve got to look forward and hope that 2022 works out and we can get home.
“I think the main thing is that everyone keeps their chin up, hopefully everyone stays well and stays healthy.
“It’s heartbreaking but hopefully we can see you all soon.”
On social media, Formula One teams echoed Ricciardo’s sentiments.
“You’ll be missed Melbourne, but we’ll see you before you know it,” McLaren posted.
Mercedes expressed their disappointment while recalling some of their fondest experiences from Melbourne.
“Gutted that we won’t be heading to Australia this season, but we can’t wait to be back soon to make more memories like these,” Mercedes posted on their social media.
