On Sunday, Daniel Ricciardo had another challenging afternoon, finishing 13th in the Styrian Grand Prix.
His performance highlighted his failure to adapt to McLaren since joining the team before the season began, as he now sits ninth in the driver standings with 34 points.
Lando Norris, on the other hand, continued his great season in Austria with a fifth-place result, ensuring his fourth-place driver standings. He currently has 86 points.
McLaren needs Ricciardo to improve his form if they are to finish ahead of Ferrari this season and confirm their position as the third-best team behind Red Bull and Mercedes.
Andreas Seidl, the team principal of McLaren, has warned Ricciardo that his performance must immediately improve.
“In the battle we are in, both cars need to score points every weekend,” Seidl said in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport.
